Sunday November 8th was the day for the tenth and last race in the 2009 Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge this time returning to the high speed and challenging Dixon track. As it was run in reverse direction, it was the sixth new track configuration we had to learn this year. We arrived on the track Friday hoping we could get some practice on the track Friday night but literally as we got our canapé up and the kart rolled out of the trailer it started to rain. Since there are no rain races at Dixon, practicing in the rain did not really make sense, so we had to do with Saturday practice like everyone else. Sunday morning at race day the weather was sunny - perfect and warm for the season.

Saturday October 24th was the day for the ninth race in the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge this time returning to Infineon Raceway with the National track configuration As we had raced at this configuration before we had the luxury of not being completely new to the track this time. This configuration has a long straightaway with speeds exceeding 65mph/110kph and is generally a fast configuration. The weather was sunny - perfect and very warm for the season.

Sunday October 11th was the day for the eight race in the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge this time hosted at Kinsmen Kart Club track in Dixon. The track is four-tenths mile long, tight with high speed corners and it is difficult to make passes. The track is physical demanding due to the high G-forces in the high speed corners putting strain on arm and neck muscles. The weather was a bit cold and windy but still with sunshine over the track.

Saturday September 26th was the day for the sixth race in the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge hosted at Infineon Raceway this time with the Reverse National Track Configuration. For once the track configuration was not new to us as we raced at this configuration earlier this year. The main feature of this configuration is the high speeds of the 880 foot/300 meter long front straight where the karts easily reach 70mph/115kph, which is pretty fast considering the driver is seated a maximum of 1 inch/25mm above the asphalt. The weather in the Wine Country once again showed itself from its best side with clear skies and sun with temperatures around 90’F/32’C.

Race Report #6 for Viking Racing, Kart #64. Second podium finish in the season

Saturday August 29th was the day for the fifth race in the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge hosted at Infineon Raceway this time with the Reverse Sprint Track Configuration. This track configuration was new to us. It is probably the most technical as well as physical challenging track in the season and as the Sprint track (same track opposite direction) there are no straights and as a driver you are either braking, accelerating or turning. No time to relax what so ever. The weather in the Wine Country once again showed itself from its best side with clear skies and sun. However it was almost too much of a good thing as the temperature during the day got up to 104’F/40’C, which was almost too much for both driver and motors…!

Viking Racing signs Sponsorship agreement with RLC Racing

It was announced today that RLC Racing will be providing data acquisition systems for Viking Racing for the rest of 2010 as well as the full season of 2011. The sponsorship also constitutes cooperation on tailoring the RLC Racing products even more for karting use.

Data acquisition has been a key element in becoming fast and it is still a very important part of Viking Racing’s program to shave off the last few tenths as well as ensuring a perfect chassis and engine setup. We have worked with different systems but have never been happy with what was on the market.

Race Report for Viking Racing, Kart #64. Redline Oil Karting Championship, Dixon, CA. Race #6 August

After a busy month with business travel in Europe as well as preparing two new karts from grounds up time was up for round 6 of the Norcal Rotax Championship. I had not had time to be on the track since last race, but the few other times we had run on the very physical track in Dixon we had done well so I was confident we could repeat that.

Race Report for Viking Racing, Kart #64. Redline Oil Karting Championship, Infineon International Karting Center. Race #5 July 25th, 2010

Literally just returned from the US Grand Nationals in Indiana time was up for the 5th race in the local NorCal Rotax Championship, which was run Sunday July 25th at Infineon International Karting Center. The track configuration was the narrow and technical Sprint configuration.

Despite not having much time to practice at this track configuration I was in shape from Nationals and confident we could do well. For the first time this year the field was big enough to separate the Masters and Masters Light drivers meaning we were only battling karts in our own weight class making things more equal.
